How to convert Quicken file

My Money has built-in capabilities of importing data from Quicken, this is accomplished trough conversion to Quicken Interchange Format, or QIF.

First, make a backup copy of the Quicken data file you want to convert and then convert the Quicken data file to QIF. This is normally done by selecting "File" menu in Quicken, selecting "Export" and "To QIF". Please note that some versions of Quicken will allow you to export all your accounts into a single file at one go, for example Quicken 2007 allows for that. In earlier versions of Quicken you may need to export one account at the time into a separate QIF file. With Quicken open, choose Export, then QIF File from the File menu. Select the account you want to export and click OK. If you're exporting accounts one at a time, repeat this step for each account. Make sure you've noted each account name you created. Close Quicken (but keep the Quicken data file handy; you'll need it later to double-check the results of the conversion to My Money).

Open My Money, click the File menu and Import QIF File. Highlight a QIF file for a Quicken account and click Open. Repeat this process for each QIF file you have.

You'll need to double-check the accuracy of My Money's conversion. Check the account balances between the values of the original accounts in Quicken and the imported values in My Money. Also, check to make sure you imported all of the accounts.

Some common importing problems may include:

1) Imports may lose reconciliation status of double entry transactions, such as transfers and split-transfers

2) QIF files provide no facility for bank generated data, such as transaction ids, bank statuses and reply codes. All of these will be lost during the export/import

3) Account level comments are not standardized they will be ignored during the import

4) Memorized transactions are not imported, this feature will be added to My Money in the future.

Please note that My Money does not support Quickens Binary Data Format (QBDF). This is because QBDFs are proprietary formats owned by various groups within Intuit, they are different not only between platforms but also between various Intuits software applications. They change often and when they do they tend to break previous versions. We discontinued QBDF support and have no plans of supporting it in the future.
